Diwali is that time of the year when we give our house a thorough jazz up. Not only that but we also get rid of the products we no longer use. Diwali is also a time of giving gifts to our family and friends. So let’s take a look at how we can have a meaningful, eco-friendly Diwali this year.
1. Use Coconut Coir Scouring Pads to clean your kitchen utensils and surfaces
The kitchen is the first place that gets the heavy duty treatment in preparation for Diwali. As you take stock of all the utensils that need to be given a thorough scrubbing, invest in Coconut Coir Scouring Pads. The sponges that are generally used to clean kitchen utensils are made from low quality materials and cannot be recycled.
Coconut Coir Scouring Pads are made from coconut husks which are a coconut waste byproduct. Thus, when you use these pads for cleaning you’re recycling something that would most probably have ended in a landfill. Their texture is such that it effectively cleans all greases and stains without chafing your skin. These pads are a multi-purpose accessory which can also be used to clean your bathroom tiles. When you throw them away they biodegrade quickly as they are made from 100% natural materials. This way no toxic waste will be created and you can have an eco-friendly diwali.
2. Use Coconut Coir Scrubs to exfoliate your skin
Coconut Coir Scrubs are naturally anti-bacterial and compostable. Eco & Faye Coconut Coir Scrubs are handcrafted by local Indian artisans. The loofahs that we normally use are not gentle on the skin, and moreover become a breeding ground for bacteria. Our Coconut Coir Scrub is designed in such a way that it facilitates an easy grip while also getting the work done.
Diwali is a time when we also pay attention to our skin and give it some much needed detoxification. A Coconut Coir Scrub is the perfect personal care accessory as it gently removes dead skin. Give yourself a home mani-pedi with these scrubs to get soft, clean, and germ free hands and legs naturally!
3. DIY Cleaning Solutions
Don’t you think that it is time to stop using store-bought cleaning solutions which contain harmful chemicals? Why not make your own cleaning solutions which will not only help you clean effectively but will also not affect the health of your loved ones?
DIY Glass & Window Cleaner –
What you’ll need:
1. 2 cups of water
2. 1/2 cup white vinegar
3. 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol
Mix these ingredients together in a glass spray bottle. Tip: Clean windows using this solution and an old cloth. To clean mirrors and glass objects use a soft cotton cloth
All Purpose Kitchen Cleaner –
What you’ll need:
Equal parts white vinegar and water.
Add in a few drops of your favourite essential oil. Pour into a spray bottle and use it to clean kitchen counters, cupboards and appliances.
All Purpose Bathroom Cleaner –
What you’ll need:
1. 2 cups of warm water
2. 1 tbsp Baking Soda
3. 2 tbsp Castile Soap
4. 30 drops of your favourite essential oil. Mix these ingredients together in a glass spray bottle and shake gently. Use them to clean your bathroom floor, sink and tiles.
4. Make Rangolis using flowers, leaves, and organic colors
The rangoli colours that are commonly available in the market contain chemicals. Instead, this year make a rangoli out of flower petals and leaves. There are a number of tutorials on Youtube. An added benefit of making rangolis out of flowers is that you can later turn those flowers into compost for your plants or even make potpourri! You can use organic colours to make your eco-friendly Diwali rangoli.
5. Light Soy Candles in your Home
This Diwali do something different and light up your home with our Warm Vanilla Soy Candle. Your home will be transformed into a vanilla wonderland! Soy wax lasts longer and is healthy for you and your family!
6. Give Eco-Friendly Gifts
Diwali means giving gifts to your near and dear ones. Many people give dry fruits as gifts which come in boxes with plastic films. Additionally these dry fruit boxes are covered in wrapping paper. Instead you could give eco-friendly gifts, which combine utility with sustainability.
Eco & Faye wants to help you to celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali this year. That is why we have come up with a range of care boxes that combine sustainability with utility. Here’s our list of thoughtfully curated gift boxes:

Bursting firecrackers does not do any favours to the environment. Instead we can release sky lanterns, which do not cause air pollution and instead, light up the sky in a much more beautiful manner than firecrackers.
We hope all these tips are helpful! Let’s celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali and take a pledge to take care of the planet and celebrate responsibly.
